    editing in Workspace

Even though I am editor of the document, I am unable to edit the document in the Workspace. Do I need MSOffice on the local machine? if yes it beats the purpose. Anyone?...

    Re: editing in Workspace

    Hi there,

Currently, the only file types that support in-browser editing are Notes & Lists. Microsoft Office documents that you upload can be viewed in the browser, but cannot be edited. To edit them, you would need to have Microsoft Office installed on the machine you are currently using to access the service.

There are a few advantages to this approach:

    • Complex Office documents can be edited without any loss of functionality between the client software and the web-based software experiences.
    • Users don't have to deal with a separate web interface for editing their documents -- instead, they're presented with the familiar Office editing experience.
    • Other Office Live Workspace features -- such as sharing, comments, activity -- are still valuable.

While the current in-browser editing experience may be seen as less than ideal, there is still value in uploading documents. However, we realize that this may be a sore point for many users, and it's an experience we're looking forward to improving in future releases.

    Thanks,

    Chris
