Getting started with Office Live Workspace

Microsoft Office Live Workspace makes it easy for you to organize, manage, and share documents, notes, spreadsheets, presentations, contacts, to-do lists, and more.

Use a workspace to collect and share key documents for the next meeting of your school's parent-teacher association. Or create a workspace that acts as an information hub for the members of your sales team located in different states. A workspace can simplify your work, home, or social life. It takes just a few clicks to create a new workspace to start managing your documents.

Create a new workspace

You can either start with a blank workspace that you customize to meet your needs, or you can choose a workspace that already contains helpful documents, notes, lists, and spreadsheets that are all geared for a specific purpose.

To create a new workspace:

  1. In Office Live Workspace, on the left navigation bar, click New Workspace.

  2. In the Create a new workspace dialog box, choose one of the following workspaces:

    • Blank workspace   Customize this empty workspace by adding your own documents, workspaces, notes, and lists.

    • Class Workspace   Organize your class materials, notes, and assignments.

    • Essay Workspace   Track and manage everything you need to plan and write a term paper or thesis.

    • Event Workspace   Plan a successful event at home or at work.

    • Household Workspace   Create budgets, assign tasks, and share information with family members or housemates.

    • Job Search Workspace   Organize your job search information and job applications, and prepare for interviews.

    • Meeting Workspace  Improve meeting productivity with a contact list, a meeting agenda, and brainstorming notes.

    • Project Workspace  Plan and manage a project for work, home, or school.

    • School Workspace  Organize all of your school information.

    • Sports Team Workspace   Share sports team information with players, parents, and fans.

    • Study Group Workspace   Organize and manage your school study group or team project.

    • Travel Workspace   Organize and plan a business trip or vacation.

To learn how to make changes to your workspace and arrange documents to meet your needs, see Organize your documents and workspaces. When you are satisfied with your workspace, you can share it with the people who will find it most valuable. To learn more about sharing workspaces, see Share workspaces and documents using Office Live Workspace.

After you have created a workspace, Office Live Workspace provides a direct link to the workspace that you can bookmark for easy access, share with other people, or use to work with multiple workspaces at the same time. You can save the link to any of your workspaces or to a document in those workspaces in your browser's Favorites list. For more information about direct links, see Manage and share links to workspaces and documents.

Delete a workspace

Over time, you may find that you need to delete a workspace to free up more storage space.

Note : Only the owner of a workspace can delete its contents. Those who have Editor or Viewer sharing access to to the workspace can remove it from view, but they cannot permanently delete it.

To delete a workspace, in Office Live Workspace, do one of the following:

  • On the left navigation bar, place your cursor over the name of the workspace that you want to delete. In the menu that appears, click Delete.

  • On the left navigation bar, click My Workspaces. Select the check box next to the workspace that you want to delete, and then on the toolbar, click Delete.

The workspace is sent to the Deleted Items workspace.

Restore a deleted workspace

If you delete a workspace and later change your mind, you can easily restore the workspace. Anything that you delete is stored in the Deleted Items workspace for 30 days before it is permanently removed from your site.

To restore a workspace:

  1. In Office Live Workspace, on the left navigation bar, click Deleted Items.

  2. In the Deleted Items workspace, select the check box next to the workspace that you'd like to restore.

  3. On the toolbar, click Restore
    .

  4. The restored workspace appears under My Workspaces on the left navigation bar.

Track workspace activity

Office Live Workspace makes it easy to keep up to date on activity in your workspaces. When you open a workspace, the Activity pane on the right side of the page shows you recent workspace activity, such as the date and time someone added a new document or starts sharing the workspace. Additionally, Office Live Workspace gives you the option to receive activity updates by e-mail.

I am just getting started, but I want to know where was this product 5 years ago. I just keep thinking about the trees (paper)  used in my business; and the time wasted to have the same information in 5-10 different places. Thanks for this product!  Have a great day!
